Source: Skanda purana translation Best place to stay during Chaturmas is Puri. This place has been give the name of god itself -  Purushottama kshetram. God goes to sleep during chaturmasya. But he stays in this place visibly like staying in vaikuntam. By staying in puri, one gets the merits of staying in every holy place each of the days. Seeing the lord at this place on one of the days of chaturmas, is equal to seeing god on all days in eight months. A sinful man, if stays in Puri for one set of chaturmas, he dispels all the sins. Procedure to start the festival of lord going to sleep is detailed in Skanda purana part 5. In Puri jagannath temple, they give a prasadam called nirmalya.. It is the Cooked rice after neivedyam, It is considered very holy. It is considered that god himself eats the food and remaining food is called nirmalya. I If a person consumed this mahaprasadam, it is considered to remove all sins. Nirmalya is considered very pure...

Prabodhini ekadasi -  Ekadasi day during bright half of Karthika month  On this day, it is understood that Vishnu who went to sleep during chaturmas, will be awakened. As per Skanda purana, Benefits of Fasting on prabodhini ekadasi ---  Great benefits better than ganga and other tirthas Things inaccessible in all 3 worlds can be got by fasitng on this day Fast on this day burns down sins acquired in thoiusasnds of previous births like heap of cotton Single fast on this day will burn teh sin equal to meru and mandara mountains On this day awakening of Hari should be performed Ekadasi mixed with dasami should be avoided Staying awake throughout the night of ekadasi gives great benefits On the dwadasi day following prabodhini ekadasi, even if someone person is fed, he gets benefit of feeding a crore persons during famine everyday on the banks of ganga.  

 Skanda purana details about the benefits of Bhishman panchaka vrata. (Source: Translation of Skanda purana (Part 5) published by Motilal Banarasidass publishers) Bhishmapanchakam - Its a 5 day vrata starting from ekadasi of bright half of karthika month till pournami. Bhishma means terrible. So the name Bhishma panchaka... It is also attributed to Bhishma. Person doing karthika vrata should not do this vrata.. If he does, all benefits of karthika vrata will go away. People who cannot do karthika vrata, can do this bhishma panchaka vrta. Its a very difficult vrata.. if someone performs it, he can achieve anything. As per skanda purana, This vrata should be done by a person with no son, at any cost. It also says that idol of papapurusa should be given as daanam to a brahmana after completing this vratam.

One who has given up sex on the occasion of false speech, anger and festival, he gets the fruit of Ashwamedha Yagya
